The best is yet to come

Four days after my 5 event day at the Great Lakes invitational I've begun to train close to 100% again. I took sunday completely off. Did a bit of rowing and other stuff easy on monday. Did a 8:07 elizabeth on tuesday (squat cleans with legs that are super sore = no fun)! Finally today I'm back to following opt's blog, with a little added metcon to work on weaknesses.

First, the Great Lakes Invitational. I began the morning feeling pretty crappy, didn't eat (wasn't hungry), was exhausted from a week of teaching and just feeling off my game. Consequently I finished 40th in Event number 1. Luckily event 2 was a strength of mine. I wanted to hit 18-20 thrusters but again, just not feeling it and my legs were shot from wod 1....even with the pitiful performance.

Wod 1:
6 min amrap
185lb deadlift 8 reps
Jump over 24' box 8 reps

6 rounds + 8 + 4 (40th)

Rest one minute

2 min amrap 135lb thrusters
14 (14th)

At this point I was 35th overall, only the top 20 go to the finals. I thought I was out. I pulled it together though for wod 3:

Wod 3
10, 9, 8....1 ladder of:
95lb Overhead Squats
Burpees (hand release at bottom)

8:36 (19th)

Miraciously this bumped me up 15 spots, I was now 20th...the cut off man going into the finals. Last wod came up about an hour later, and I knew I had to hit this hard to make it to the finals.

Wod 4
3 rounds of:
20 reps of 115lb back squat (From ground)
20 toes to bar
20 Double unders

6:36 (5th place)

Came out with a 5th place finish! This tied me for 17th overall and to the finals I went!

Final wod
50 cals on rower (damper 5)
30 clean and jerk 155lbs
40 cals on rower
40 pull ups
30 cals on rower
50 1.5 pood kb swings

20:02 (18th place)

Tore my hand on the pull ups. Got to the swings pretty fast, first 5 there, at about 17 minutes. Got 9 in a row and felt my hand slipping and ripping and mentally just gave up. Tear my hands like crazy for what? 16th place instead of 17th? No, not worth it. It would have set my training back weeks. So took it nice and easy on swings, finished 19th overall and am pretty happy in general with how I did. Finishing 40th really put me in a tough spot, but I came back.

Todays training:

From OPT's blog:

Front squats: 265lbs x 2 reps (legs still wobbly)
Hang Squat Snatch: 135x3 reps
Chest to Bar pull ups: 3 sets of 20 unbroken
AMRAP HSPU: 15, 14, 10 (3 sets)

2 min rest between everything. Rested 10 minutes after this and hit a metcon:

21-15-9
GHD sit ups
25' box jumps
4:12

Happy with where i'm at, but I know my training has yet to peak....the best is yet to come.
